Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a fantastic method for both for learning about music but also for promoting wellbeing amongst those that attend classes. However, the UK needs more teachers in order to both raise the profile of Dalcroze and to introduce many more children and adults to its benefits.
It is hoped that 2024 will be a turning point for Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the UK. Currently there are just two training centres in the country; the weekly model run by myself in Ealing, West London and the monthly intensive weekends, which have a long history, and which take place in Croydon in South East London. It is hoped that another training centre can be opened elsewhere in the UK to run alongside the current training programmes. Watch this space for more news!
If you’ve looked at the Courses page on this website you will have seen that I have been present at courses in Singapore, Australia and Shanghai, China. The trip took place in January 2024 and the enthusiasm in South East Asia was astonishing. The beginners on the course in Shanghai numbered over 60 and my friend and colleague, Jerison Harper-Lee runs training groups in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. The future of the method in this part of the world is promising!
However, in the UK Dalcroze is not well known. In an ideal world there should be classes for adults throughout the UK! The appetite for dance , Pilates and yoga classes is well established and we need to do the same for Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Dalcroze UK is doing its best to change this. Discover Dalcroze Days have taken place over the past few months and our Spring Course has another opportunity for exploration of the method.
